Tap, Cap and Go

A vibrant, neon-style moving graphic that reads "TAP & GO" in bold, 3D letters. The words are colored in green and blue, with a glowing yellow icon symbolizing the contactless tap function. The background is dark with neon edges, adding a modern, tech-savvy feel to the design, which emphasizes the simplicity and ease of contactless payments.

Tap&Go makes paying for your single fares easy, with the added benefit of daily and weekly fare capping. You can travel as much as you like within a 1-day or 7-day period, without paying more than the cost of a day ticket or 7-day ticket.

By using Tap, Cap&Go, you can travel with us knowing that when you’ve reached a daily or weekly cap, you will automatically not be charged for additional journeys.

You’ll love this if you travel infrequently too! You might only plan a couple of trips that turn into five or six, but now you’re frustrated you didn’t just get a 1-day ticket. Daily capping won’t charge you more than £6.60 for all your single journeys in the same day. Weekly capping works similarly to daily where you won’t pay more than £23 in a 7-day period.

So, how does daily capping work?

Simply pay for your single journeys using Tap&Go as you normally would using the driver’s machine or the Tap&Go machine at the door.

The cost of your trips will be added up until you reach the daily limit of £6.60. You then won't be charged for any more single journeys until the following day.

Make sure to use the same card for all your trips. This must be either your physical card or Apple/Google Pay.

How does weekly capping work?

Customers continue to benefit from daily capping, with day tickets capped at £6.60 for a day’s travel. If your journeys add up to the cost of a 7-Day Ticket (£23), your fares will be capped for the week. Your capped week starts from your first payment and runs for 7 days.

Keep track of your journeys via the app

You can see all your card-paid journeys via the app, just open up the Contactless Journeys section and add your card if you haven't already. From there you can view all your recent card payments and see how much you've been saving from daily capping. This means you can also see all the details of the journeys you have made like below!

A screenshot of a mobile app displaying details for a contactless journey on Blackpool Transport. The screen shows a recent journey, starting from "Four Lane Ends Stop 1" to "Queens Hotel" with a fare of £2.10. The app indicates that a "Day Cap" has been applied, showing a limit on the total cost for the day. The image also includes saved card details and an option to add a new credit/debit card. The interface is clean, and the design features the Visa and Mastercard logos for the saved payment methods.

Tell me how to use Tap, Cap&Go for great value single journeys.

Tap, Cap &Go is easy, but how does it work?

Similar to the tap-in/out system in London, Tap, Cap&Go means that you won’t need to plan ahead on which ticket to buy. You will always pay the correct and lowest fare for your single journey. Best of all? It’s so easy!

Can I Tap&Go on the trams?

No, Tap&Go is not on our trams at this time as a single flat fare is in operation. Contactless payments are available onboard our trams.

How does it work?

When you board the bus, simply tap your contactless payment card or device onto the contactless payment machine in front of your driver. You won’t need to ask your driver for a ticket but smiles and cheery hellos are welcome!

No need to say where you’re going and no worry if you change your mind, simply take your seat and enjoy the ride.

When you’re leaving the bus, tap the same card or device you used when you boarded the bus on the ‘tap out’ reader. You will be charged the correct and lowest fare for your single journey every time.

Tap&Go travel is for Adult single fares only. If you need a Child or Young Person ticket, simply ask your driver and pay onboard using contactless payments or in cash.

Do you Tap&Go often? We recently added daily capping, so you'll never be charged more than the price of a day ticket.

A few things to remember…

Tap, Cap&Go travel really is easy but there are a few things to remember to make your journey seamless every time!

  1. Remember to 'tap out’ when you leave, otherwise, you’ll be charged the highest possible fare for your journey.
  2. You must tap using the same card or device when you get on and when you get off, otherwise, you’ll be charged twice and that journey won't count towards your daily cap.
  3. Keep your contactless card away from your phone when scanning a mobile ticket so that the machine does not take a payment. Tap in and out using the same device, don’t switch between your card, a mobile and a smartwatch. Each device has a different card number and will not link if you swap.
  4. Keep your cards separate when you tap to make sure the payment works and is taken from the right card.
  5. If you want a specific ticket, ask your driver before tapping. This stops automatic Tap, Cap&Go payments from being taken.
  6. If you’re taking advantage of our mobile app, activate your ticket and make sure your QR code is showing before you scan. This stops your phone from using Apple or Android pay on the machine and getting charged a fare.
  7. If you're travelling with a concessionary pass, keep it separate from your bank cards so you are not charged for your journey.
