Airshow travel plans set for take off

We're set to take customer service to a new high this weekend as the Fylde Coast plays host to one of the country’s most spectacular air shows.

With the promenade closed to traffic on Saturday and Sunday (August 9 – 10), we are going the extra mile to ensure visitors and local residents can make the most of the airshow.

Additional trams will run from Manchester Square towards Starr Gate and from North Station towards Fleetwood on both days, although a ‘split service’ will be in operation between midday and around 6.30 pm.

Jamie Swift, Head of Service Delivery, explained: “Due to the vast number of spectators lining the promenade, it will not be possible to run a through service. However, with roads around the town centre filled with traffic, our trams and buses still offer the best way to get around during this stunning showcase of aviation history and piloting skills.

“As well as running extra trams, we’ll have additional buses on standby to cope with demand at peak times. To make boarding of both trams and buses as swift as possible, we’re also urging people to pay for their travel in advance using our mobile app, which offers a range of tempting ticket offers. These include discounted group tickets and other great value fare options.”

While stops at The Tower and Central Pier are closed, anyone travelling towards Starr Gate can catch the tram at Manchester Square, while North Pier is the best stop for customers heading for Fleetwood and Cleveleys.

Changes are also planned for bus services, with several bus routes diverted away from the Promenade, and more details can be found on our Service Updates here

Easily identifiable in their pink uniforms, Blackpool Transport’s team of customer assistants will also be out in force over the weekend, offering face-to-face travel advice at key locations.

“Parking will also be in short supply, so visitors from outside the area are being advised to leave their cars at designated out-of-town car parks before completing their journey by public transport,” Jamie said.

“Whether travelling into town by tram or bus, we would urge everyone to allow a little extra time for their journey to what promises to be a hugely entertaining weekend,” he added.
